Last weekend we began a three-week period of inviting people in the parish from both language-speaking communities to participate in a survey from the Gallup organization to help the parish more effectively fulfill its mission. From the survey we took at the masses last weekend we received back 479 completed surveys from our English speaking community and 340 from our Hispanic community, 819 total. I'm not an expert in these matters, but I think this is a very good response and hope that everyone of you will participate in the survey. We have them available this Sunday and ask any of you who were not here last weekend to take a survey home with you, fill it out, and return it either to the rectory or in the collection basket next weekend. The survey will take about 7 minutes of your time and is completely confidential. If you would like, you can complete it online by going to the parish website, www.svdpch.org, and click on the "Gallup Survey" link, using the access code that is provided.

As I mentioned last week, Gallup is well known for its polling research, but their primary work is management consulting; and they have applied their scientific research and skills to church life. The survey is called the ME25 member engagement survey and will help us better understand where we are as a parish and what directions we can take to deepen our spiritual growth and more effectively accomplish our mission. This is a long-term process that will take time. It is not a quick fix; but the pastors I've spoken to who are involved in the process are enthusiastic about the spiritual growth they have seen happen in their parishes. I'm hoping for the participation of everyone in the survey.

The weather has not indicated that we are in summer, but it matters little. School starts this week! I assume the weather will soon take a turn to perfect when the kids get back into school. Sometimes it seems like there is no justice.
