When the Nerd finds a copy of Nintendo Power exuding a belief that EarthBound was a rotten game, he later finds reviews that show how glamorous the game was and reveals a fanbase for a title he now has to play.   4. the reason ness sees his face in giygas is the same reason luke sees his face in darth vaders helmet in Empire. Not that Giygas is his father, its a recognition of the evil within himself. Frodo experiences this also in a way, as well as Harry Potter, Neo, Spider Man, Link from LOZ, etc…

Believe it or not, the photographer has a canon lore purpose. 10 years into the future, after Ness has defeated Giygas, he's forgetting his adventure and remembers he didn't take any pictures along the way, so he tells a photographer to go back and time to take his pictures so he won't forget. This is also why he falls from the sky, after going right to the past to when Ness was where he wanted to take a picture.

  6. Today i learned where toby fox got his inspiration. I also have never played earthbound. But i love undertale! So i may try it someday when i run out of other games
